I found some websites and articles that may be useful in finding informatin for Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia.
I am using quotes about Big Brother, mind control within the government, and excluding citizens from the real world.(For example, changing allies in a seconds notice.)I am comparing that the Hitler and Stalin and their ideas of an "ethnic cleansing." Also the ways that they munipulated the public as well as other nations to believe that their actions we unharmful. The ways that Stalin and Hitler munipulated the world is just horrifc, but at the same time a masterpiece. - Duran, A.
I found the "secret police" of Hitler and Stalin to be very similar to the "thought police" of 1984. Torture used to force confessions by Hitler and Stalin, and this method was perfected by Orwell in 1984. I found those the secret police and torture methods of Hitler/Stalin very similar to that of 1984. Stalin also had millions of people disappear without a trace quite often.. with most of them being Russian. This is very similiar to the vaporizing of people in 1984. Stalin is very similiar to Big Brother. Even in physical characteristics.. the way big brother is described is similar to Stalin. Ketring, C 2nd white
I believe that 1984's Party greatly relates to Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany. Examples of each are that The Hitler Youth was basically parallel to the Junior Spies of the Thought Police. And for Stalin, the Ministry of Love can be compared to the gulags in Russia. Here are a couple of sites that may help.
Here are some quotes I found that you could use if you were comparing the brainwash/mind control. “Never again will you be capable of ordinary human feeling. Everything will be dead inside you. Never again will you be capable of love, or friendship, or joy of living, or laughter, or curiosity, or courage, or integrity. You will be hollow. We shall squeeze you empty and then we shall fill you with ourselves.” (Orwell, 256) The last paragraph of the book can be used as an example to how Winston was brainwashed by the Party. “He gazed up… He loved Big Brother.” (Orwell 297-298) The police/punishment in both Orwell’s 1984 and Nazi Germany are very similar. Concentration camps/labor camps were very common punishments in both. This website has a lot of the political elements of the Nazi Germany that Orwell uses in his book. http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/Nazi%20Germany.htm H. Lee 3W
I am writing on the political elements of Nazi Germany and Stalinist Rasiraervussia that can be seen in George Orwels 1984. The use of Propaganda in the form of posters, songs, movies, etc. The similartities between The Hitler Youth and The Spies. And the consant watch of the citizens. L LeFevre 2w
